Although Carmine Wharf was originally marketed as canalside living in Limehouse , there s very little that s canalside about it, and it stretches the borders of Limehouse to the very extreme. It s really more Bow than Limehouse. But this shouldn t put you off because it s one of the quietest developments in E14. Only a handful of apartments actually look over the canal, the rest of them face a private gated courtyard, with the remaining units having west-facing views across the neighbouring 1950 s social housing. Inside, the apartments are well-designed with simple kitchens and bathrooms and attractive black-framed windows and doors. There are some nice layouts at Carmine Wharf and the prices are very competitive, you can live here and walk to Canary Wharf for the price of a bog-standard apartment in Bethnal Green.

We can t put our finger on it, but there s something about the proportions of the Oxygen building that make it appear slightly awkward. Maybe it s the asymmetrical facade or maybe it s the clumsy window design, but a combination of less-than-perfect design details makes this imposing block look strange from most angles. It s a shame really because Oxygen occupies one of the finest dockside sites in the Royal Docks. This narrow plot resulted in a tall 17-storey design with wide terraces and stunning views of Royal Victoria Dock.
